Write-up about BEA 2013 Illustrator Tour

During BEA 2013, I was part of the Illustrator Studio Tour. For one day, I had groups of nice book sellers from all over the country visit me, check out my work and my studio, and my latest book projects. And they received some nice goodies from me, courtesy of Random House, Boyd Mills and Chronicle.

The other illustrators on the tour were such great people as John Green, You Byun, Tad Hills, Betsy and Ted Lewin, and Kate Yamasaki.

The American Booksellers Association did a nice write-up about it, including some pics of me:

Thanks to everybody who came out to visit me, and to the ABA for having, and to Random House for setting this up!

Keeping it Real: Illustration Concentration article

Here is something I've been meaning to upload, a very nice article on my work written by Kevin McCloskey, professor for illustration at Kutztown University.

I met Kevin during this year's MoCCA Fest and found out he is a fellow SVA MFA Illustration graduate. I also had the pleasure of meeting some of his students. Thanks again for the great write-up, Kevin!

Print Magazine's Oral History of the Pencil Factory

Joining the studio collective known as the Pencil Fectory has to be one of the best things have done in recent years. Being surrounded by hardworking, talented and friendly individuals every day makes my work so much fore fun and satisfying.

If you like to know more about the people who have worked here over the years, Print Magazine did a really nice Oral History of the Pencil Factory.

Many thanks to Rob Walker who did all the interviews, and to Art Director Ben King. Above photoshoot of our space is by Ross Mantle.

Goethe Institut Feature

The Goethe Institut has a website about comics and comic arts, and the latest article is about German artists who went abroad. I'm honored to be included, to talk about reasons and experiences of working as a German illustrator in the US. You can check out the entire article here. Many thanks to Rieke Harmsen for the write-up!

Novum Magazine feature

Here is my 4-page feature in the latest issue of Novum, the great German design magazine. It means a ton to me to be featured in such a great publication.

When I was studying design in Germany, this was one of the magazines we always looked at, and to have made it into its pages is amazing.

Issue 6/2012 is available now, as soon as I have received my own copies I'll post some more pics.

Many thanks to Design Professor Lanny Somese for writing the article and to all the great people at Novum!

Interviews & Articles

Here are some comics-related recent articles, interviews and news from around the web, collected for your convenience:

I wrote a little article for the Cartoon & Comic issue of Slanted,
a German magazine about typography and design. I called it A Very Subjective And Casual Comics Overview from Greenpoint, Brooklyn, because that's what it is.

Furthermore, there is a nice feature about me over on the Holy Yost,  because I'm contributing to Digestae, a food-themed anthologywith many great contributors including Jeffrey Brown and James Kochalka. Many thanks for the shout-out!

If you like to support the project, there is a Kickstarter campaign with great rewards.

And finally, here is an interview from MoCCA in which you can see me at the festival live and alive.

As always, thanks for swinging by!
