Activity book with Highlights magazine

Here are all the sketches for the first of a multiple-book project I'm doing with Highlights magazine. It's all off to the publisher now…

For this book I created mazes and hidden pictures and such, at times my brain was spinning, but I think I got the hang of it!

PEANUT Advance Readers Copy

Peanut, the big graphic novel I've been illustrating for years, is coming together at long last! I've received my advance readers copy in the mail and couldn't be more excited, seeing it bound as an actual book. Some tiny things left to tweak, and then it's off to the printers!

Peanut is a YA graphic novel written by Ayun Halliday and illustrated by yours truly. It has over 200 pages, will be printed with two spot colors and is coming out in January 2012 from Schwartz & Wade / Random House.  To preorder here, click here.

Panama Independence Day – workshop in Stuttgart

I had the pleasure and privilege to go to Germany for a special event with Panama, an advertising agency in Stuttgart, with which I go waaay back.
The "Panama Independence Day" consisted of workshops, brainstormings and strategizing, as well as fun and games.

As key-visual, I had created a "cover-version" of the famous Turnbull painting of the signing of the declaration of independence.

My task throughout the day was to visualize all the ideas and results in an enormous "mind-map" ("Visual Facilitating").

Panama had supplied me with all necessary tools, including a giant foamcore board.

I had a great time and it was nice to get to hang out with some old friends and make new ones. And incidentally, I got to visit my parents real quick. Many thanks to the entire team of Panama for inviting me!

I have a new piece in today's New York Times, about behavioural scientists and how they can help inform political decisions. Many thanks to Art Director Minh Uong! You can read the full article here.
