Website update on paulhoppe.com, besides my recent illustrations for the New York Times, EastBay Express and AARP Magazine, I also put up a new homepage image, it's a personal piece I did solely for fun– and self-promotion. It's kind of a fresh take on The Invisible City, a series of drawings I worked on during the MFA Illustration program years ago. I'll see if it evolves into a series again…

Pencil Factory

Last week I switched studios and moved into a space at the Pencil Factory. This is a hub of illustrators and designers in a former Warehouse of Greenpoint, Brooklyn, I know it'll be inspiring and fun to work 
here.

For quite a few years I worked from home, before I moved into the Fowler Arts Collective last year. I realized that having a studio helps me structure my workdays (and also gets me out of the house), and that it's overall beneficial for a work-o-holic such as me. It has made me kind of a "Union-Illustrator", I like to work 9-5, or more likely, 10-6. If the workload permits.

Now I've moved into the Pencil Factory, because people's schedules and work will be more similar to mine, and because it's a great place overall.

I'm sharing a space with the awesome Alex Eben Meyer, Jing Wei, GB Tran and Neil Swaab. And of course there are many other super-nice and hardworking artists in the building, some of which I know, some of which I'm looking forward to meeting.

So here's to a great 2012!

Website Update

Just updated my website with the latest editorial work for the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal, including such instant classics as Robot City, Self-Service Frozen Yogurt Franchises, and The Four Hoursemen of Economic Apocalypse. Also, updated the homepage with the latest news. Thanks for visiting!

Occasional irregularity

Ah, my posts have been a little irregular since the summer, because I've been working very hard on the finishes for Peanut, a 200 page graphic novel written by Ayun Halliday and illustrated by, yes, no other than yours truly. It will be published by Schwartz & Wade / Random House in Fall 2012. Now, back to the drawing board for the last pages, and then I hope to "broadcast" my misadventures in the illustration world more frequently again! Have a great start into the fall!

Website Update

I did an update of my website, and also changed the start image. I added four pieces to the Editorial Color section and one piece to the Editorial B/w section. The illustrations are for The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, New York Observer, Assets and UCLA Magazine. Hope you'll enjoy them!

I've just started a page for my children's books and young adult work on Facebook, I hope you'll join me in finding out what to do with it!

The Facebook page will hopefully allow me to communicate and connect even better with you, dearest audience. Since I have two books coming out this year, I hope there will be a lot to talk about!

Back from the Old World

I'm back from my annual trip to Germany. I had a great time. It was very snowy and cold– a true winter. Below is a shot from Ravensburg, on my way to the the old hangout spot, Cafe Bar Balthes.

Website Update

It's been a while, but I've finally updated my website!

Since I have my blog, the updates on my actual website have been less frequent, I feel that's been a general trend in the field. The blog has all current news and projects, since it's so easy to update. The website is still the place to go to get a comprehensive look at somebody's work, not just a snapshot.

I managed to update all the galleries. There are four new pieces in Editorial Color, six new pieces in Editorial B/w, and in the Children's section there are images from my forthcoming new children's book, The Woods, plus a bunch of other new stuff! In the Sequential section, there are a ton of new pages, including from the graphic novel I'm currently illustrating, Peanut. And I've even managed to dig out a really old piece for the Experimental section.

Hello again…

Sorry about the lack of posts lately. It's been probably the busiest summer ever! Usually fall and spring are the craziest seasons… But, busy is good, right?

In the meantime I made progress on my graphic novel and my other book projects. Also, I did a couple of editorial assignments, drew some storyboards, and then I was sick.Other things I'll share soon are some books that I was involved in came in the mail, and two group exhibitions that I'll be part of this fall.

So I'm looking forward to catching up with my postings and also share some brand-new artwork. Hope you are having a great summer…

Summer Classes and Lectures

I wanted to thank everybody in the Summer Illustration Residency at SVA and at the 3x3 Nuts and Bolts Conference for their interest and participation. It was great fun and honor to be part of these two events.
